Hickok's Steakhouse closed until further notice

Or, so says the sign on the door.

Multiple eyes on the street told us this morning—Hickok's Steakhouse on Patton Avenue has shut down. Phone calls to the restaurant, generally open this time of day, were not answered.

We'll try to figure out if this means only the restaurant is closed, or also the attached micro-brewery, which many local beer fans favored over Springfield Brewing Company. It's tough to see the extensively renovated space being used as anything but a brewery, what with all the specialized equipment. But we'll see.

It's been a tough year on Patton Avenue, as Agrario, Bodega Bar, and then Blue Plate Restaurant all closed ahead of Hickok's, leaving Patton Alley Pub as the lone holdover. Rumors have been swirling about a big-name buyer for the Patton Alley and Agrario properties (with Erik Zackrison remaining in control of Patton Alley Pub itself)—curious if all the Scott Tillman-owned real estate will be sold in one fell swoop. You'll know as soon as we do what's going on.

But for now, let's just hope we haven't had the last of Hickok's Copperhead ale.

When I moved back from Dallas, my wife and I became frequents of this place. It was great...at first. Good food, good beer. Then, the quality started tanking. First the salads, then the cooking, then everything was always served lukewarm. It's too bad. I really liked this place at one time. Oh, Hickok's...why did you have to start to suck?

And how about the parking lot closing next to Patton Alley Pub only to be soon reopened as a pay-to-park-lot. I have to pay $3.80 a gallon for gas and then pay to park my car somewhere?
Tsk, tsk, tsk to all the greedy developers (you know who you are and so do we) just out to make a buck with no concern on how it affects the average Springfield consumer.
